Hypocrites and Pharisees
Scarcely a month has elapsed since the Gosnell verdict, but it’s already “old news.” Our mainstream media and our nation in general have sighed a big sigh of relief and gone back to life and death as usual. Even the scant mainstream media coverage afforded the trial at its height has disappeared into the distant past like an unpleasant scolding. But life and death continue unabated in America’s abortion clinics (abortuaries).
Then last Thursday John McCormack of The Weekly Standard magazine asked House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (a vociferous supporter of abortion) to explain the moral difference between Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s murder of infants born alive and legalized late-term abortion. Not only did the question anger the California Democrat, it drew laughter from other reporters in the room. Yes, laughter! As if life and death are but comic relief for those of us fortunate enough to have escaped the abortion industry’s death grip alive.
But laughter doesn’t make the gruesome truth that came out during the Gosnell trial disappear.
The laughter cannot muffle the agonized cry of a baby being decapitated with scissors.
The laughter cannot cover the image of a baby’s toes spreading wide in pain as the poisonous needle is injected.
The laughter cannot cover the image of a baby’s body burned all over by the saline solution used to kill during the abortion.
The laughter cannot cover the image of baby parts scattered in the operating room just as adult body parts were scattered all over Auschwitz.
The laughter cannot hide the truth.
Perhaps, just perhaps, the laughter is a sign of our discomfort with the truth. If not, we have become more barbaric than the ancients who sacrificed their children to idols in the fire. Oh, forgive me, I forgot! We’re sacrificing our children to the idol of convenience and sexual depravity in our abortion “clinics” under conditions we don’t tolerate in our veterinary clinics.
What’s the difference between abortion and murder?
Why does someone who punches a pregnant woman in the stomach and accidentally kills the baby get charged with murder, while an abortionist who inserts a poisonous needle into the womb of the same woman gets paid handsomely for his effort?
Because we are hypocrites.
When pressed to answer the question, Nancy Pelosi’s response was:
“As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when you talk about this, I don’t think it should have anything to do with politics, and that’s where you’re taking it, and I’m not gonna go there.”
Nancy Pelosi hypocritically hid behind her “respectful” Catholicism and ducked the question completely. To which Jesus would respond,
… “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, … (Mar 7:6-7)
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. (Mat 23:25)
And what is the destiny for hypocrites? Jesus describes the fate of a wicked servant (manager of the master’s staff) who abused and beat his fellow servants and became a drunkard:
“the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Mat 24:49-51)
The wicked servant merely beat his fellow servants and drank, but will receive the severe punishment of the hypocrites.
How much more wicked are we who kill innocent, defenseless babies created by God as a result of our wanton fornication and hypocritically call it “choice”?
How much greater the punishment we deserve!
May The LORD have mercy upon Nancy Pelosi and this nation.
All is not as it looks.
If she were truly a “respectful” Catholic following her religion, then she would not only oppose abortion, but even vehemently oppose birth control.
The Pharisees were the practicing lawyers of their day. They would make a show of their devout adherence to the letter of God’s law; at the same time they would violate the spirit of the law through twisted and distorted interpretations of the letter of the law which they used to take advantage of the defenseless, the weak, and the poor.
