Counter-CutHypocrisy – pretending to be something you’re not – is a great sin.  Jesus repeatedly chastised, “Woe to you, scribes, Pharisees, hypocrites!”

Who were these people?  The scribes were teachers and interpreters of the Law, as well as legal secretaries creating legal documents such as contracts and divorce papers.  The Pharisees were religious and social leaders of considerable influence who administered and made the Law, and self-righteously judged others – ignoring their own transgressions and faults.  These hypocrites, the scribes and Pharisees, were the lawyers, politicians, and judges of their day.

Things haven’t changed a bit in 2,000 years.  Beware today’s hypocrite lawyers, politicians, and judges who say one thing in public and do another behind closed doors because they will strip you of all you hold dear!

Also remember what Jesus taught:

Mat_23:25  “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

Mat_23:14  Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive the greater condemnation.  (emphasis added)

…and what the fate of the hypocrite is:

Mat 24:51  and will cut him [wicked person] in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  (emphasis added)

Beware the hypocrite, the liar, and phony politician.  But remember also that lawyers, politicians, and judges do not have a monopoly on hypocrisy.  Each and every one of us is prone to the disease.

All is not as it looks!
