The Elephant Whisperer

October 30, 2012 Leave a comment

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. He created a perfect setting for all His creatures to live in the Garden of Eden. Then man messed it all up by disobeying God’s instructions.

Have you ever wondered what it must have been like to live in the Garden of Eden harmoniously with lions, elephants, and all kinds of other animals? No fear, no sickness, no death, no sorrow…

Every once in a while we get echoes of what it must have been like. Every once in a while stories surface of unusual harmony in this predatory world of conflict: Dogs nursing kittens, cats nursing puppies, and so on.

Then there are the stories of humans uniquely able to communicate with animals, such as Cesar Milan the dog whisperer and Dan (Buck) Brannahan the horse whisperer. Now we have the incredible story of Lawrence Anthony, the elephant whisperer.

Since 1999 Mr. Anthony has cared for two wild and troublesome elephant herds on the 5,000 acre Thula Thula game reserve in South Africa. Mr. Anthony died in March 2012. Though the elephant herds were miles away in the bush at the time, they somehow sensed Mr. Anthony’s passing, made a 12 hour journey to his house, stayed around to mourn for two days, and then disappeared back into the bush. Read the amazing full story here.

Such stories serve as reminders of God’s promise that one day He will restore the glorious harmony He originally created:

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. (Isa 11:6)

The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the LORD. (Isa 65:25)

Thus we are also reminded of the most precious gift we’ve been given: The opportunity to enjoy glorious harmony with God forever – if we so choose. The mysteries of how God is accomplishing that miracle and how we can choose to participate through Christ Jesus are made fully clear in the Bible:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (Joh 11:25-26)

Joh 20:30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (Joh 20:30-31)

… This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.(Joh 21.24)

I look forward to enjoying your company in the glorious harmony of the restored Garden with Jesus, plus elephants, tigers, lions, wolves, lambs, and many other wonderful creatures because

All is not as it looks.

Amazing, simply amazing!

Everyone watched breathlessly as Oscar “blade runner” Pistorius raced in the London Olympic 400m semi-finals. Though disabled because both his legs were amputated at 11 months of age, he remained undaunted and went on to successfully compete in the Olympics against the best of the best.

But Oscar is not alone. There are many other “disabled” individuals refusing to accept defeat and continue pursuing their dreams. Nico Calabria, for example, was born with just one leg but is now on the Concord-Carlisle High School varsity soccer team. Watch him kick this incredible goal and view these other fantastic photos of him playing soccer.

One can only admire the determination and resolve of individuals like Oscar and Nico.  What an inspiration they are!

They have figured out that appearances can be but an illusion limiting only those of small thought. And they proved it by their actions.

Oh, what we all could accomplish if we each had the same determination as these fine young men, because

All is not as it looks

Hungary: …More tidbits

I recently posted a series about adventures in Hungary.  If you read those, you might be interested in these two pieces from the internet.

Hungary, because of its location in central Europe, has been at the crossroads of migrations between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East – amongst them being Jews fleeing westward.  Budapest is the capital and largest city in Hungary; before the Second World War it was home to one of the largest concentrations of Jews in Europe.   To this day Budapest has one of the largest synagogues on the planet.  So it was not surprising to find the following travelogue about Budapest from a Jewish perspective.  Enjoy!

Of course where there are Jews, there are also anti-Semites – and Hungary is no exception.  So it wasn’t surprising that one of the most wanted living Nazis was arrested in Hungary as well, particularly in light of the fact that Hungary was under Nazi occupation during WWII.

Let Dogs Vote!

“Dogs are people, too,” goes the saying.  Furthermore, dogs have a much better instinct for choosing a leader than humans who are easily distracted and confused by words, according to dog whisperer Cesar Millan.

So, since we’re already giving voting privileges to illegal aliens and dead people, let’s go full bore and grant them to man’s best friends as well.  They might actually choose more astutely than us.

Just a thought…

Counter-CutHypocrisy – pretending to be something you’re not – is a great sin.  Jesus repeatedly chastised, “Woe to you, scribes, Pharisees, hypocrites!”

Several years ago I became familiar with the web site  I have watched it mature and even contributed material periodically.  I do believe it’s a great and reliable Christian resource.  I also believe that most of the postings are based on solid fundamental, Biblically accurate Christian doctrine.

Unfortunately recent actions by Google may silence this Christian community forum by the end of the year.  Please don’t let that happen.

There have been ever more frequent instances of Christian websites being blacklisted by Google, Yahoo, and so on – often in response to governmental pressure – effectively silencing them because of Christian beliefs.  Please don’t let them silence this one also!  Help out by spreading the news or personally contributing whatever The LORD leads you to contribute. Counter-CutWhether or not a Presidential candidate will repeal ObamaCare is one of the key differentiators in this election.  There is much confusion on this matter; one side claims certain facts, the other claims other facts.  Is anyone speaking the truth?  How does one choose?

Actually, the answer is pretty simple:  “Where there is smoke, there must be fire.”  While it may not be scientifically provable beyond doubt, enough “smoke” exists to make one question the wisdom of embarking on yet another expensive government program of such grand proportions.

We are running trillion dollar annual deficits and our economy is in shambles; this is not the time to embark on a major financial adventure.  For this fact alone ObamaCare is the wrong legislation at the wrong time.

Add to that the fact that it was hurriedly signed into law before Americans were allowed to examine its contents, I’m more than suspicious of what’s in the package.  Are we getting a Christmas gift, or a Trick or Treat?

Let’s start with some humor.   (MUST SEE THIS SHORT VIDEO).

This is what else I learned after researching the matter a bit: Read more…

Jewish Riddle

October 16, 2012 1 comment

This question originated sometime between 1,000 BC (King Solomon’s time) and 500 BC, (Hezekiah’s time) at which time it was included in the Hebrew Scriptures:

Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name? Surely you know! (Proverbs 30:4)

To find out the answer, please read this October 2012 newsletter in its entirety.  You’ll enjoy it.  I was overwhelmed by the faith and courage of the author!

Sand Castles

The other day I received one of those internet forward emails with pictures of a number of incredible sandcastles from the Oregon coast sandcastle contest. They were true works of art expected to last at most a few days.

Further research revealed that sand castle competitions are thriving all over North America. There are even professional sand castle makers!  A trip to one of these competitions next year might be a lot of fun…

Let the other pictures in these links also amaze you:
