Infanticide by Any Other Name…
Two medical ethicists have published an article in Australia arguing that babies born alive as a result of a failed abortion should be killed because the baby is not a person. The common term for this is “infanticide.”
The basis of their argument is a new definition of personhood based on social utility: Any individual without social utility is not a person, and anyone who is not a person has no right to life. This is just the first step down a slippery slope to all sorts of euthanasia and other evils:
- Dependent children should not be considered persons and could be killed.
- Old people on retirement should not be considered persons and could be killed.
- Sick people unable to care for themselves should not be considered persons and could be killed.
